Salem, MA – Friday, at the Council on Aging in Bedford, Massachusetts, Congressman Richard Neal (D-MA) joined Seth Moulton, Marine veteran and Democratic nominee for Congress in Massachusetts’ 6th Congressional District, to talk with seniors about their shared commitment to protecting Social Security and Medicare. Earlier this week, Moulton was endorsed by Senior Vote Counts, a group led by Jon “Bowzer” Bauman to advance issues that are important to seniors.

“Social Security is one of our nation’s greatest achievements,” said Moulton.  “It is a contract between generations that we must honor. Congressman Neal has long been an advocate for seniors and for the rights of all Social Security benefit recipients. I look forward to working with Congressman Neal and other Members of Congress to ensure the long-term stability of Social Security and Medicare.”

“As someone who grew up on Social Security Survivor Benefits, I know how important that federal program is for seniors in Massachusetts. It is part of the three legged stool meant to protect retirees during their golden years. I have always believed that Social Security is the world’s greatest antipoverty program, while Medicare adds years to life and life to years. Last week, I visited the Council on Aging in Salem with Seth Moulton and came away convinced that no one will do more in Congress to preserve Social Security and Medicare. I know he will fight to protect these important benefits for future generations,” said Congressman Richard E. Neal.

Marie Ryder, a nurse at Middlesex Community College in Bedford, was glad to hear that Moulton planned to make veterans health care a top priority in Congress. "We work with the Bedford VA all time time; they need our help."

"Too many people in Congress forget what the job is," said retiree Rachel Murphy, of Bedford. "You aren't there for yourself. You're there for the country. I think Seth gets that."
