Letter: Moulton stands up for fishermen

To the editor:

We are writing to support Seth Moulton for Congress.

Seth is the best chance that fisherman have to survive. We believe that he will represent us well.

We have been fishermen our whole lives. Some of us have just recently sold our boats. It used to be that a fishing vessel could support multiple families, now at best a vessel will only support a single fisherman. Fishermen have seen their allocated quota decrease by 90 percent over the past few years. These cuts have not only hurt the fisherman of Massachusetts, they are also destroying the port infrastructure which supported the industry.

As far as we’re concerned, NOAA and our government have done this to us and the only ones that can fix it are our representatives in Washington.

We have met several times with Seth Moulton. He has sought us out and listened to our issues. He talked to us about his military experience and how, when he worked for General Petraeus, he had to stand up to other military leaders when they were saying things that weren’t accurate. Seth is the type of standup guy that we need to represent us in Congress.

Seth gets it. We spoke to him about our issues. He understands what we are saying, and will be a strong advocate in Congress for fishermen.

We asked him to be our champion, and he agreed willingly.

We have nothing against Richard Tisei, but we are in a position where if we don’t pick the right congressman to represent us, we will lose everything. For us, this election is very important. And for us, Seth Moulton has been the guy to engage in our issues and want to be the champion of the working guys.

We ask you, as Gloucester fishermen, to vote for Seth Moulton to help keep fisherman alive and give us a chance.
