I know many of you are disappointed and looking for answers after what happened in this year’s presidential election. Believe me, I share your disappointment. But I’ve also heard loud and clear that, more than talk, people are looking for action.
Now more than ever, we’re all in this together. And it’s going to take the concerted and collective action of every single one of us to bring our country together.
We need to start today.
That’s why we’re launching #ICommit2, a platform for each of us to share what we’re going to do–right now–to heal our country and move forward together.
I’m a white male, christian, veteran, and a Member of Congress. So I’m a member of pretty much every group that voted for Donald Trump. But as an American, a veteran and, most importantly, as a Member of Congress, here is my commitment to every single one of you: I’ve got your back.
- If you are a person of color who worries for your safety, know that you’ve got a friend in Congress who supports you. Your Lives Matter.
- If you are an immigrant or a Muslim American who is targeted by the Trump Administration, I will stand up for your rights and for basic human decency.
- And if you are a woman whose right to make her own health decisions comes under attack by Republicans in Congress, I will stand and fight beside you every single day.
- Beyond that, I commit to you that I am going to work every day to recruit a new generation of service-minded leaders ready to rebuild our party and take back Congress in 2018.
