Democratic congressional challenger Seth Moulton will get an unusual boost tonight from the Boston Red Sox, who will honor him mid-game for his military service less than three weeks before the Sept. 9 primary against U.S. Rep.John Tierney.
A Red Sox spokeswoman did not return messages seeking comment on the timing of the decision to single out Moulton as part of the team’s regular “Hats Off to Our Heroes” program, where, according to his campaign, he’ll be introduced to the Fenway Park crowd in the fourth inning while standing on the Sox dugout in full military uniform.
Moulton, a Marine veteran of the Iraq War, whose big-name backers include Gen. Stanley McChrystal and former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, will also benefit from nearly $1 million in TV ads hitting broadcast and cable between now and primary day.
His campaign has two ads on the air — including one leveling several attacks on Tierney’s congressional record, which was a $450,000 ad buy that will likely increase, a campaign spokesman said.
